Do I need to be referred to access Body Positive Tayside? No, you can either
Drop-In hours are: Tuesday 12 noon to 3.30pm Wednesday 12 noon to 3.30pm Thursday 12 noon to 3.30pm Apart from drop-in, all our services can be accessed out-with the project premises. What if I meet someone I know at Body Positive Tayside? Anyone who uses the project services may have worries and anxieties about confidentiality. Body Positive Tayside promotes a very strict confidentiality policy. Can I bring my family and friends with me? Each member is entitled to bring one nominated supporter who will join as a personally affected member. Speak to a volunteer or a member of staff to find out which services personally affected members are able to access. Is there a certain type of person that uses Body Positive Tayside? Body Positive Tayside is there for people regardless of background. We operate an equal opportunities policy to ensure that services are accessible to all. Our code of conduct ensures that the people that use the project services feel safe at all times. Does Body Positive Tayside follow any particular philosophy? Body Positive Tayside is an independent charity funded by local authorities and the health board. Our philosophy centres around our aim, which is: Body Positive Tayside is a charity that exists to empower hiv and hcv positive people and those directly personally affected to eliminate the stigma and isolation they experience. What happens at Drop-In? Drop-In is a comfortable homely environment where people sit and chat about anything and everything. Volunteers and staff are always available to provide emotional and practical support. Do I have to pay for services? All services are provided free to positive members. Personally affected members will have to contribute to any activities. I have a good idea for a group/activity which isn't already provided? Body Positive Tayside actively seeks new ideas and input from its members. If your ideas fall within our aims and objectives, we would love to discuss these with you. Can I meet my social worker or other support worker at Body Positive Tayside? Yes, we encourage people to use the centre as much as possible. Can I bring my kids with me? Yes, we welcome kids into the project. Parents are responsible for their own children while in the centre. Can I bring my dog with me? Yes, but you must be prepared to leave if someone obects. You are responsible for your dog while in the centre. Do you supply free food? We offer tea, coffee and light snacks. There is a microwave for people to heat up their own food. I work through the day, can I still access services? Some complementary therapies are available outwith our hours. Occasional social events are held in the evenings. One to one support can be organized to fit in with your working hours. Can I smoke in Body Positive Tayside? Body Positive Tayside is a smoke-free zone. I live far away from Body Positive Tayside and find it expensive to travel in. Members living outwith Dundee are entitled to claim travel expenses above the cost of a local bus fare within Dundee. Can I access Body Positive Tayside while under the influence of alcohol or drugs? No, Body Positive Tayside adheres to a strict no tolerance policy. Anyone suspected of being under the influence of illegal drugs or alcohol will be asked to leave the premises. Can I get free condoms at Body Positive Tayside? Yes, we supply free condoms and lubricant. I fancy the idea of a Complementary Therapy but I'm worried about taking my clothes off. There are a number of therapies that don't require you to remove your clothes. If you fancy a therapy that does require you to remove your clothes, the therapist is very discrete and will leave the room while you change and will cover you with towels so that you don't feel uncomfortable. If I'm not happy with a service, what do I do? If you have a problem, either big or small, we want to know. You can either discuss your problem with a member of staff or volunteer or if you feel it is more serious, we have a complaints procedure in place. Just ask the volunteer or a member of staff for the complaints procedure form. I am a wheelchair user, is your building accessible? Unfortunately, our new premise does not offer disabled access. We are, however, able to offer all services, except drop-in, out with the premises. We can assist with travel costs for people living out with the Dundee area. We can also put you in touch with other organisations which can offer various sorts of help. I am interested in going back to college, can you help me? Yes. We have a service called "Footsteps to the Future" available in which we can support members to access college courses, further training, employment etc. I am finding it difficult to take my HIV/Hep C treatment, can you help? We are here to support our members with issues such as treatments. We also work closely with other professionals such as HIV Social Work Team, Community Nurses and Hep C specialist services, so we can also refer you to other agencies if you wish. |
